The Artist’s Eye – Fort Worth Magazine

What does the art of the past mean to the artist of the present? In this ongoing program, moderated by Kimbell staff, artists and architects discuss works in the museum’s collection, share the special insights of the practicing professional, and relate older art to contemporary artistic concerns, including their own.

Dan Jian, visual artist, Fort Worth

Moderated by Jennifer Casler Price, curator of Asian, African, and Ancient American art

Dan Jian’s work explores an inner world of stored images and reflects on the shifting space of narrative and memory in an abstracted landscape. Her recent monographic drawings utilize dust and ashes as material, navigating the tension between the past and present in the monochromatic compositions of a landscape and layers of cutout collage. Her work has been exhibited across the US and internationally in China, Italy, and Korea. She is the recipient of a 2023 Nasher Sculpture Center Artist Grant. Jian is an assistant professor of art in the TCU College of Fine Arts.
