Jingle Jam returns, local artists to sing Christmas carols for those who can’t get out during holidays

The Jingle Jam program is back, with local organizations and musicians partnering to play Christmas music for those who can’t get out this holiday season. The free music is available in December to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, shut-ins, hospitals, and more.

This year features 16 outreach groups, including: The Fletcher Family; Wayne Morris; The Bluegrass Brothers; Mackenzie Bell; Lucy Jagoe Chaney and Emmie Kate Williams; The Jarboe Family; Wild Mountain Thyme; Claudia Bartlett and Cailyn Westerfield; Michael and Allison Hoover; Shrimp n Grits; Mike Hobson Band; Jeff “Wildman” Hardesty; The Rhinerson Sisters; Daviess County Line; Sarah and Parker Malone; and the Bluegrass Museum Band Class.

The program is put on by the Bluegrass Music Academy, Volunteer Owensboro, and Faithful Friends Kentucky, with Randy Lanham serving as a primary organizer.

Lanham previously said he got inspired to create the event last year after a few groups performed “ROMP around town.”

“All of the facilities loved it,” Lanham said previously. “So, of course, Christmas is a great time of year to bring music to facilities with folks who can’t get out. Part of teaching my students music is to learn to play with others and then take it out to the community.”

Some of the venues that have already booked performances are Owensboro Health, Active Day, Carmel Home, Park Regency, Chautauqua, One Park Place, Twin Rivers, Heritage, and Wendell Foster. To book an act to play at your facility, email [email protected].

Additionally, at 5 p.m. every Tuesday at there will be live performances on the WBIO radio channel.

Lanham also noted there will be a special “Christmas Jam” at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum in the Woodward Theater at 2 p.m. on December 17. Everyone is welcome to come and play an instrument or sing along.

“We want to give everyone a chance to be able to play with others and this is the perfect opportunity,” Lanham said. “We will have a lead band playing on stage with the chord and lyrics charts on the big screen for folks to follow along.”

To get chord and Tab charts to all 12 classic Christmas-time songs, email [email protected].
