I don’t take requests. It’s *** new art form called Masking as performed by Jamaica Plain Artist, Danielle Callahan. I just start seeing things, think of it as *** conversation between artist and subject Callahan interprets through brush strokes to reveal something about who I am at this moment. I couldn’t tell you exactly how it’s influencing your mask. And finally, my chance to see myself transform through the work of the masking pioneer himself. Wow, that is so cool.
Tuesday, December 5: Arts Connection
Tonight we meet artists connecting with their communities through murals, movement, and music.
Anthony Everett visits Chinatown, where sculptor Wen-ti Tsen is adding immigrant workers to Boston’s bronze statue scene. Nicole Estaphan heads to Jamaica Plain where artist Daniel Callahan uses face paint to celebrate cultural diversity. In Providence, the “Haus of Glitter” performance lab has created a dance opera inspired by the untold stories of enslaved Africans. Finally, we meet the founder of the Archdiocese of Boston’s Black Catholic Choir, who has been uniting audiences through song for over 30 years.
