Erased Tapes Share Multi-Artist ‘Music For Siam’ Project | News

Erased Tapes have shared their new multi-artist ‘Music For Siam’ project.

The release has its roots in December 2019, when the label’s artists Midori HiranoDouglas DareHatis NoitDaniel Brandt and Rival Consoles travelled to Thailand.

The group were commissioned to re-interpret the sounds of Bangkok’s most iconic spaces as new original compositions, with this creativity then performed live onstage at Wonderfruit Festival.

The recordings were kept on file, and have now been given a full release for the very first time. Out now, ‘Music For Siam’ follows in the label’s ad hoc Music For… series, following ‘Music For Brainwaves’ and ‘Music for kō’.

Erased Tapes founder Robert Raths comments…

“It’s very exciting to finally be able to share these pieces with the world. Quite some time has passed since we embarked on this label excursion to generate site-specific works, and the world has changed in many ways. Which only makes one appreciate these recordings even more, as they allow us to take our listeners on a truly unique sonic journey to a place that we’ll never forget.”

The finished results represent a unique aural topography of five locations around Bangkok, an insight into the area, its people, and the atmosphere. James GreerMSCTY, comments…

“Featuring field recordings made at the five locations we explored with our friends at Erased Tapes, Bangkok Memory Phase takes a sideways cross-sectional glance at the city through its organic sound. In Bangkok, the slowly weaving and meandering Chao Phraya River is never far away, but then, neither are the vital voices that thrive around it: chanting at Wat Arun, the market generator hum of Tha Tian, the traffic, the bridges, monuments, parks, and bustle of the ornate station offering slow trains north, and haircuts at the side of the tracks.”

Tune in now.
