Award-winning colored pencil artist to teach workshop at Muskogee Art Guild | Community


MUSKOGEE – The Muskogee Art Guild has announced DeAnn McDaniel, an award-winning colored pencil artist, will teach a four day workshop February 9-10 and 16-17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Participants will learn techniques on how to apply colored pencil smoothly, blending colors, and creating photo realistic paintings.

The class will include color theory, as well as pointers for composition. Class sizes are limited to 10 participants. Members pay $100, while non-members pay $120. Participants must bring supplies, including a basic set of colored pencils with Prismacolor reccomended; not sketch pad paper but drawing paper; a camera or cell phone camera; and hand held or electric pencil sharpener and eraser.

McDaniel has been doing colored pencil art for 23 years. She has been juried into and won ribbons in a number of art exhibitions, notably including the 2004 Colored Pencil Society of America international exhibition. She has been a member of Ouray County Arts Association 1999-2016; Montrose Visual Arts Guild Women Artists of the West, 2014; Colored Pencil Society of America, 2003 to present; Muskogee Art Guild, 2017 to present; Cherokee Nation, 2017 to present; and judged Best Emerging Artist, 2019 Spider Gallery in Tahlequah.

She has studied with colored pencil artists with CPSA, including Janie Gildow, Ann Kullberg, and Linda Lucas-Hardy.
