At Kyiv’s ‘Kudryavka,’ an exhibition of young Ukrainian artists called BEREZEN is being showcased

The charitable exhibition BEREZEN featuring works by 26 young Ukrainian artists from Lviv, Donetsk, Odessa, Uzhhorod, Kryvyi Rih, and Kyiv is presented by Poligon Project, a traveling curatorial project by Odessa artist Sanya Oster. From March 31 to April 6, it can be seen at the Kyiv space “Kudryavka” (on the premises of the abandoned Kyiv liqueur and vodka factory), after which it will embark on a tour across Ukraine, as well as to Germany and Great Britain.

The exhibition focuses on the young names of the contemporary Ukrainian art scene. Among the works, which according to the organizers “bring a new breath into the cultural discourse of the country, moving from the ‘underground’ to the public space,” painting is the most represented, but visitors will also see sculptures, street art, and installations.

“The gathered artists work in different directions and come from different spheres,” the description of BEREZEN says. “From the street art of Donetsk conceptualist Serhiy Simutin to the icon-painting past of Lviv artist Volodymyr Oleshchuk; from the Odessa avant-garde of KIT to mural design by VVIKMMA from Bila Tserkva.”

In the artists’ works, the focus shifts from external triggers to deeper personal reflections, which stem from Russian armed aggression but “evolve under the influence of our awareness of freedom and self-identification.”

Sanya Oster, explains that the purpose of the exhibition is to “reveal the archetypality of our society, especially its cultural sphere, in the context of Western thought patterns.”

“This attempt at analysis reflects the multidimensionality of our worldview and its influence on contemporary cultural dynamics, expanding our understanding of cultural heritage and its role in shaping identity,” said Oster

You can visit the exhibition for a voluntary donation* starting from  UAH 100 hryvnias. The proceeds will go to the volunteer organization CVIT to collect funds for FPV drones for seven units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
