Local artists and volunteers came together Saturday morning to spruce up a special gathering space in Eatonville.The Community Nook in Eatonville is a nonprofit with a mission to build a beautiful, welcoming gathering space for residents and visitors alike.Last year, groups collaborated to build flower beds and a free library for the kids.Saturday morning, Winter Park Arts and Culture Alliance along with Urban Forestry Division helped plant some new seeds. “Decided to do Spring Spruce Up in the Nook. And it’s a mural,” Lavonda Wilder said. Wilder is the president and CEO of Eatonville Chamber of Commerce.With the help of her next-door neighbors, a new mural came with a new mulberry tree.It comes just ahead of Arbor Day, where people are encouraged to celebrate spring by planting trees. “This space right here is to invite people and have the fruit trees right here so that if people are passing by, they can just take a piece of fruit and feel welcome to it. They don’t have to knock on the door and ask anyone,” Wilder said. Winter Park’s assistant director of communications, Craig O’Neil, hopes nurturing the arts and culture will inspire future generations. “It’s really to bring the community together and make this a more pleasant, colorful place so people visit the chamber and learn about what’s happening in Eatonville,” O’Neil said.
