VIENNA, W.Va. (WTAP) – Over the weekend, the Grand Central Mall Craft Fair gave people the chance to patronize local artists.
The assortment of vendors sold a diverse array of items including clocks made from custom photo slates, unique decorations, and hand crafted jewelry, and flower growing kits, among other things.
Jason Licht of No Limit Arts uses old vinyl records to uniquely painted and functional clocks. “This is pour art,” Licht said, holding up one of his pieces. “You take paint and you basically spread it around on the album, turn it like this and like this, and let it do the work.”
Angela Watson offers face painting and airbrush tattoos through her business Angela’s Misfits. “I’ve been an artist my whole life,” Watson said. “Usually my medium was paper or, you know, any object I can paint on, and I’m like, why not kids? So, anyway, that’s how I got into it. And then I started doing the airbrush tattoos for the older kids because I kind of felt that they were getting kind of left out.”
Watson said she’s relatively new to running her own business and is glad to have opportunities to sell her services. “This is only the second year I’ve been doing it, so,” she said. “I’ve mainly just done like, local fairs and a few birthday parties. I’ve been trying to get into weddings, stuff like that. I’m trying to branch out a little bit, so.”
Craft show organizer Becky Morrow, herself an artist, said she started the show to help local artists connect with each other and with their communities. “I want to be able to help others get out and show off what they made, their talent,” she said. “It’s showcasing their talent and they’re excited to show other people about it.”
Morrow said there will be more shows at the mall throughout the year. The next one will be on June 22 and 23. Morrow said any artists who are interested in participating in future shows can contact her at bemorrow14@outlook.com
