Drawing buildings class with international artist set Oct. 12-13

Mispillion Art League will welcome internationally renowned guest artist Pat Southern-Pearce from the United Kingdom for a two-day workshop on Drawing Buildings. Sessions are set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13, at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford. This is the artist’s fourth visit to MAL, and her workshops fill up quickly, so early registration is advised.

Southern-Pearce is known for her calligraphic works on toned paper, her skies, her sense of place and her habit of sketching in carparks. “So many different kinds of buildings, so many different shapes against the sky, so many darks that punctuate, and glinting windows and patterns and textures. I will lead you to discover the unexpected, teach you to look with different eyes and inspire you,” she said.

This workshop is a gradual buildup of skills and storytelling, recording color, atmosphere and text. Participants will steadily develop skills, collect details in flexible thumbnails, and work on concepts including quality of line, expressive skies, adding glow and a sense of distance, negative space, less is more, and sketching like a painter.

The fee is $325 for MAL members and $345 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 22. For more information, go to mispillionarts.org.
