Arts Services Inc. (ASI), in partnership with Assemblymember Bill Conrad’s Office, is excited to announce a new public art opportunity at the Kenmore Branch Library. We invite Western New York artists to submit proposals for an outdoor mural that will celebrate books, stories, and knowledge while transforming the library into a vibrant artistic landmark. This is a fantastic opportunity to create a lasting impact in a high-traffic community space that serves as a hub for learning and engagement.
Project Description & Goals
Located at 160 Delaware Road in the Village of Kenmore, the Kenmore Branch Library is a key resource for the Town of Tonawanda and Erie County, welcoming over 137,500 visitors annually. This project seeks to enhance the library’s exterior with a visually compelling mural that reflects the themes of literature, learning, and inclusivity. The artwork should invite engagement from both library patrons and passersby, reinforcing the library’s role as a center for knowledge and community connection.
Design Requirements
The mural will cover multiple masonry facades adjacent to windows, as well as a prominent northeast inverted corner of the building. The artist should consider the following design elements:
- Depictions of books and storytelling imagery (avoiding copyrighted names and images).
- An open book with creative visuals emerging from its pages.
- Inspiring phrases related to libraries, knowledge, and books (avoiding copyrighted phrases).
- A design that complements planned window wraps featuring book spines.
- Durability for an expected lifespan of 3-5 years.
- We highly recommend connecting with librarian, Mary Muscarella at muscarellam@buffalolib.org for design details.

- A detailed budget covering artist fees, supplies, and any additional costs.
- Links to past work or portfolio samples.
- Contact information (email, phone, and address).
