The Park City Artist Association will “Spring into Art” when it opens its annual exhibit Friday at the DoubleTree by Hilton— The Yarrow, 1800 Park Ave.
The local—artist showcase will run through Sunday, March 23, and feature 29 artists, said Board Member Richard Pick. (See roster below.)
“By the list of the artists, you get the idea that we have a wide variety of media represented,” he said. “That is part of the thing we wanted to do.”
The exhibit is a “premiere” exhibit for the artists, according to Pick.
“This is the largest concentration of local artists in any one event here in Park City,” he said. “It’s free, family friendly, and easy to get to with the free parking at the DoubleTree.”
Nearly half of the 29 artists are new to the showcase this year, said Metal Artist Kelly Gallagher, Park City Artists Association vice president.
“We have paintings, photography, an illustrator, someone in the literary art scene, glass, wood, and metal artists, jewelers and a fabric artist this year as well,” she said. “It’s going to be great to enable them to have the opportunity for them to show their art.”

The increase of new participants is due to the increase of the association’s memberships, Gallagher said.
“Last year we had about 60 members, and now we’re nearing 70,” she said. “So this show and some of the other work we’ve been doing, is helping local artists understand that we can be a good advocate for them. We have good contact with the arts council and the Kimball Art Center, and we can really represent them well.”
Park City Artists Association President Mitch Bedke, a glass artist, said “Spring Into Art” sprung out of necessity.
“It was formed out of a need, and has momentum,” he said. “The Arts Council of Park City & Summit County couldn’t find a venue, and they were going to cancel (their) winter arts showcase. So this is what that has become. PCAA just took it over and organized it.”
DoubleTree by Hilton — The Yarrow General Manager Tony Moody is happy the showcase has returned to the hotel.
“It was a wonderful show last year, and we wanted it back,” he said. “It was interesting to see the diversity — ages 10 to 100 and all different socio-economic groups — come through. It’s a Park City show for Park City people as well as Wasatch and Summit counties, but we had hotel visitors going to the show as well.”
The Park City Artists Association enjoyed returning to the hotel, if only to work with Moody and his staff, Pick said.
“Tony and his crew have been great to work with, and they not only helped us out financially, but he made things so easy for people using those facilities,” he said.
Not only will the exhibit open, but the hotel’s restaurant and coffee shop will also be open, Moody said.
“Our lounge and bar also opens at 4 p.m.,” he said. “We’re a full-service hotel and look forward to anybody and all guests coming and visiting us.”

Bedke was also happy to return to the venue.
“It’s centrally located in the heart of Park City and a prime piece of real estate,” he said. “So to be able to show there with 28 other artists in one space and have people come see your work is something I think the public wants. This is a great way to interact with the community.”
“Spring Into Art” is one way the Park City Professional Artists Association fulfills its mission to mentor and support local artists, Pick said.
“We do everything from mentoring new artists to doing professional presentations during the year at our meetings,” he said. “Throughout the year, different artists talk about their media, and even though I’m a photographer, every time I listen to an artist talking about what they do and how they do it, I’m influenced in my own specialty.”
