Come celebrate the 5 winners of the Yonkers Philharmonic Concerto Competition. May 5, 2024, at 3 pm at Saunders Trades and Technical High School. It’s FREE and you’ll enjoy the extraordinary performances of these high school students as they perform with the orchestra.
YPO will kick off the concert with Rossini’s Thieving Magpie Overture.
Flutist, Michael Stoica, makes a triumph return as the first-place winner. He’ll perform Georges Hue’s Fantasie for Flute. Mayor Mike Spano sponsored the first- place prize of $1000 this year.
Second place winner, Evan Lee, will perform a movement from Antoni Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor. Pianist, Simona Heifetz, will perform a selection from Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Fourth place winner, Madeline Margulis-Ohnuma, will perform part of Camille Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto in A Minor. Rounding out the concert will be fifth place winner, James Liu and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Concerto for Bass Tuba. How often do you have the opportunity to hear a tuba concerto?
