River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work for the upcoming juried show, “New Works.” This exhibition will showcase artists’ recent fresh and contemporary works. Pieces that have been created in the last 12 months may be entered. This show is open to members and nonmembers alike. The public is invited to the opening reception Saturday, Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
River Arts is pleased to announce Abbie Read will jury “New Works.” Read grew up making art on the campuses of Abbot Academy and Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts. She attended Oberlin College, where she earned her BA in studio art and art history, then later received her MFA at the University of Michigan School of Art. Read works in drawing and painting, printmaking, book arts, collage, and sculptural constructions.
Read’s work has been shown throughout New England including the Portland Museum of Art, the Portland Public Library, Lesley University College of Art & Design, Catamount Center for the Arts in Vermont, and Boston Sculptor’s Gallery, as well as in galleries throughout Maine and Boston. Internationally, Read has participated in the Art in Embassies Program with exhibitions in Doha, Qatar and Hong Kong. Read maintains a studio in Appleton, Maine where she lives with her husband Bart.
“New Works” is open to all media, including original work in painting, sculpture, fiber, photography, ceramics, original print making, drawing, encaustic, pastel, glass, and mixed media. Artists may enter two pieces with a size limit of 24 inches (in any direction) including frame or one piece with a size limit of 48 inches (in any direction) including frame.
