In the parking lot of the Anchorage Museum. C Lab artists are hard at work designing their own dumpsters and a public art live mural event. It is all a part of an initiative by the Solid Waste Services and a group to do something for the environment.
“Wide variety of artist interpretations of what that means. Land stewardship is really looking out for the environment,” said Gideon Gerlt, curator for the Public Arts Program with the Municipality of Anchorage.
A few artists drew spray painted and sketched out their designs. Artists told Your Alaska Link what their creations are.
“I friend and I compost. It’s about sustainability,” said Dawn Crandall.
“Well, I’m drawing trash on a dumpster, so it couldn’t be more fitting,” says Ted Kim.
“I’m doing a bunch of flowers and stuff coming out of reusable containers,” said Stephanie Novak.
Artists are excited for the opportunity.
“It’s such a great way for art to be able to be put in the world and kind of a more kind of concrete context,” said Bryce Fox.
“I really appreciate it. I don’t really like the attention so much,” said William Kozloff.
Solid Waste Services is still deciding where to put the dumpsters once they are completed. The plan is for the doses to go in high traffic areas around Anchorage.
