Art in Bayfront Park brings artists, craftsmen, and music to Duluth

From August 17th-18th, Art in Bayfront Park and the Twin Ports Music Festival bring artists, craftsmen, and music to Duluth. There’s more than 150 vendors showcasing jewelry, metalwork, pottery and even food.

Stephanie Hansen is the Culinary Market Director for Art in Bayfront Park. She says they are always looking for newcomers. However, there’s a panel of judges who select from the people applying to displaying their works of art. Hansen gave some tips on how people can be qualified for next year.

“If you’re an artist out there and you’re wondering if you could make it at a festival like this. The answer is yes, you can,” Hansen said. “We are always looking for a new artist, both in the culinary market, but also in our arts market. They’re looking for diversity in your art, also uniqueness in your art. But we really love this festival because we really get to bring a lot of people from all over the Midwest to Duluth to this beautiful shores of Bayfront Park.”

Aside from the art vendors, and food trucks, there’s even live music from local bands featured in the Twin Ports Music Festival. One of the new vendors this year is Amy Blake, the owner of Pippi Brewster. She says Art in Bayfront Park is a great way for people to connect with one another.

“So I started making art during COVID. I needed a hobby when I was at home all the time, I started doing art fairs actually last year,” Blake said. “I make one-of-a-kind handmade clay jewelry, so everything I make will only be made one time ever, so it makes it a little bit more fun.”

If other artists are looking at becoming vendors at future art fairs, Blake say to stay persistent. While it does take a lot of time, patience and drive, Blake says with enough practice, artists can go far.

“Hone in to your passion and just try it out. It’s vulnerable, but, after you try it and do it again and again, it’s so fun. It’s just nice to do something you’re passionate about,” Blake said. “Whether it’s just a passion project or what you do full time. It’s a great opportunity to get your name out there.”
