JACKSON, Tenn. — An event that was a year in the making makes its way to the Hub City after an unexpected location change.
Lathan Warlick made his way to the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson for a free concert. Warlick says he is so excited to be back in his hometown.
“Jackson just love me. It feels like so much support in the city and I love it. I know, like you said it was at the Amp, but since it switched. Oh my gosh, it’s amazing its a blessing. It’s a surreal feeling, like I do shows everywhere but when you come back home when you back to the house it’s a different type of vibe it’s a different type of feeling,” said Warlick.
After weeks of advertising this free concert on his social media pages, it was agreed to move the performance to a new venue.
Guests were seen lined outside the door just before tonight’s show. Warlick has a new song and a favorite to perform for the audience.
“I got a song called ‘Kinda Wanna’ and a new song that I’m dropping on the 12th called ‘Dirty South.’ so I got 2 songs I really want them to be vibing to.” said Warlick.
Coming back to Jackson is important to Warlick and he hopes he can do this often.
“I wanted to come back here and be like, you know what I don’t have to be with a label and I can come back and still do it on my own and still make my own money because I own my own masters and I can teach people out here, in Jackson how to become an artist. You know what I mean? Or I can help influence them to into making some great decisions on becoming an artist,” said Warlick.
Warlick combines country, rap, hip hop, and Christian music to teach the message in a unique way. Other than having a great show, he has one major goal.
“Man I hope that somebody leaves here wanting to know about Jesus. That’s what I hope. You know what I mean? And God’s just teaching me in a different way to present himself to people. It might not look how a pastor would do it but it’s not about that, but it’s about reaching the people with God, love and unity,” said Warlick.
Warlick has a vision that he hopes his work will showcase.
“The vision is God, love and unity because without God there is no love, without love there is no unity. So God is just showing me that I have to think outside of the box and I was just doing music just for the hood just where I was growing up at. And he told me to just go outside of the box. When I went outside of the box. I started doing it with country artists. Pop artists,” said Warlick.
Warlick also shared that this fall his supporters can expect a new project.
