Artists by the Lake has been around for at least 15 years. It are located on the second floor of the Lakeview Recreation Center, 10626 W. Thunderbird Road.
The club is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday unless there is a special event, workshop or class. Anyone with a valid RCSC card and $10 can join the club.
Many members are retired or wishing they were retired from the working world and ready to try something new. Some members have been creating art their whole lives and want to continue. Some have waited their whole lives to start making art and begin their creative journey. It’s a great opportunity for anyone in Sun City to expand their horizons.
The vision of The Sun City Artists by the Lake Club is to create an inviting, supportive environment that meets the needs of members through art education and opportunities that provide pleasure, personal growth and the promotion of artistic talents.
Guided by the mission statement the club offers beginner to advanced classes in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting. It also offers classes in drawing, pastel and colored pencil and occasional workshops in alcohol ink, composition and other themes. There are also open painting times when artists bring their materials and paint together in the art room.
Above all else, the club is a social group. Many artists create in a studio alone, but this is an arts community where members support each other with encouragement and positive reinforcement. Classes are geared to help the artist improve. Members hold critiques so artists can continue to grow in expertise with a positive attitude toward improvement. There is a gallery in the club room where members can display their accomplishments and take pride in their artistic growth. Many friendships have been created along with beautiful art.
Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up” — Artists by the Lake is committed to finding that child within everyone.
The artists are preparing for the 2nd annual fine arts show and sale Feb. 24 and 25 in Social Halls one, two and three on the second floor of the Lakeview Recreation Center. The show runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. both days and is free and open to the public.
