Artists can paint storm drains in York to raise awareness for clean watersheds

YORK, Pa. — Local artists can use their skills to beautify York and raise awareness of water pollution.

The Master Watershed Stewards of York County are organizing the Street 2 Creek Storm Drain Art Project. Artists can register for the contest to be chosen to paint a storm drain along York’s streets.

Organizers say this is an attempt to raise citizen awareness and help educate the York community about the connection between storm drains and local creeks.

Each of the storm drains painted will feature an environmental message about storm water runoff, watersheds and pollution.

To register for the contest, artists must be age 14 or older and live in York County. They must submit three designs and select a storm drain they’d like to paint.

First place winners will be awarded $500.

Second place winners will be awarded $400.

Third place winners will be awarded $300.

The submission deadline has been extended to May 8. Click here to register.
