Twenty artists set out to “Paint the Town Barrington” as the village held its annual multi-day Plein Air event, and wrapped with a reception and showcase of the paintings.
From Oct. 6 to Oct. 14, the artists were outdoors painting in the open air (Plein Air), borrowing from what artists in Paris have done for centuries, organizers said in announcing this year’s event. People were able to watch the artists, who hailed from across Chicagoland, as they painted local landmarks around town over the course of the week.
Rollin Potter, Barrington cultural director, told Pioneer Press that a few artists did not compete toward the end of the event due to two consecutive days of rain.
“The event always attracts a group of very talented and dedicated artists, with each year including repeats and new participants,” Potter said. “In all, it was a great event, in spite of two rainy days toward the end of the series.”
Potter explained that the participating artists were Plein Air painters who brought their artistry to to the village – on street corners, in parks and more.
After days of the artists painting outside, the event moved indoors for a bit, where people meet the artists in person as they showcased – and sold – their pieces. That reception was held Oct. 14 at Barrington’s White House.
