Young artists have tried searching for new art language integrating art with other objects in a group art exhibition under way at the Dwip Gallery in Dhaka.
The exhibition titled ‘Apan Ghare Porer Ami’ has been organised by Dwip Gallery and curated by Mustafa Zaman.
Twelve artists, namely Taiara Farhana Tareque, Syed Muhammad Zakir, Suborna Morsheda, Salma Abedin Prithi, Razib Datta, Mustafa Zaman, Md Zobayer Hossain Joati, Kazi Tahsin Agaz Apurbo, Imran Sohail, Ata Mojlish, Afsana Sharmin Zhumpa and Abir Shome have displayed artworks in the exhibition.
‘Apan Ghare Parer Ami is about the othering of the self. If this self has already shown some creative tendencies leading to some signature artworks or art projects, the idea of the creation of the other in the negation of the self is like assuming a completely different role in conceiving and creating the next artwork. The idea of the other self is derived from the corpuses of Bauls and Fakirs, who refer to Allah or Bhagaban, the suprabeing, as the ultimate Other. But by negotiating Lalon Fakir, one can also frame it as self that has two parts – one known and the other unknown. It is through this unknown, which Lalon frames in relation to an omnipresent creator and Lacan locates in the unconscious, that new ideas are brought to the fore,’ said Mustafa Zaman.
‘The artists who are part of this exhibition have already variously shown a tendency to experiment with mediums, which often also include the playful inclusion of non-art objects. If this has become a trend, this exhibition has demanded more of the participants. The curatorial decision was that they push the envelope further and explore the impossible by once again taking a detour. In short, they were inspired to go beyond their established strategies and identities,’ he added.
Abir Shome’s art project titled ‘Sab Kichu Bhenge Pare’ is an installation comprising drawings, prints and sculptures made of found objects. The work depicts the values, systems and hopes that are disappearing day by day.
Taiara Farhana Tareque has depicted the relationship between men and women in her project titled ‘Love Lost’.
Suborna Morsheda’s artwork titled Metamorphosis, has been created using woodcut technique, pencil and pen sketch, stitches on paper and digital print. It depicts stories and emotions surrounding a house.
Kazi Tahsin Agaz Apurbo’s installation art project titled ‘You Are One, You Are Many, You Are None’ comprises drawings, paintings and objects. It depicts the complexity of life.
The nineteen-day exhibition, which began on December 12, will end on Saturday.
