SEQUIM — Janet Piccola and Jolene Sanborn will open a new exhibit, “What a Wonderful World,” from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Friday.
The artists will be at Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., during Sequim’s First Friday Art Walk.
The friends will be the gallery’s featured artists thoughout August.
The name of the exhibit reflects the artists’ shared passion for traveling to experience the world.
Piccola, a potter, has been exploring new techniques after being introduced to a kick wheel during a recent trip to Turkey.
The kick wheel, powered by foot and leg, was a challenge for the potter, who is accustomed to using an electrically powered wheel.
Sanborn uses a technique called Sgraffito, which involves applying a colored glaze to a piece, then scoring the glaze to expose the underlying base color.
Sanborn, a painter, draws her inspiration from the outdoors. A recent fishing trip to Canada provided experiences to use in her art.
The exhibit can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays throughout August
