The Takoma Park Arts and Humanities Committee has invited artists to submit entries for a site-specific sculptural installation outside the city’s recreation center, located at 7315 New Hampshire Ave.
The committee is seeking proposals that center around the theme of “welcome” or “crossroads”.
The installation must be made of metal or other durable materials that can withstand weather and have an estimated lifespan of at least five years. If possible, it should also include an anti-graffiti coating, and be designed to be easily movable if necessary. While interactive or playful elements are welcome, the installation should not encourage climbing. Since there is no power at the site, components that may break or need replacement should be avoided. Overall, the installation should require minimal maintenance.
This call welcomes all artists aged 18 and above, and artist teams can also apply. Applicants should have prior experience with similar scale and budget projects. City of Takoma Park employees, Arts and Humanities Committee members, and their families are not eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply is March 3, 2024, at 5 p.m.
