Balloon artists making the city ‘pop’ with red, white, and yellow for Chiefs Gameday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – As we countdown to gameday, all week long Chiefs fans have been painting the town red, white, and yellow. Pop Culture Sculptures works directly with the Chiefs to make the city ‘pop.’

“You cannot deny that something like this on this caliber doesn’t bring goodness to our city,” said co-owner Darren Huffman.

As the excitement of Chiefs fans grows, so do the number of balloons. It starts with 500 balloons for small watch parties and events to huge installations of 130,000 balloons.

“Loading and inflating 130,000 balloons. There really is no way around it. Your fingers hurt at the end of the day,” said co-owner Peyton Westfall.

Amazon, Dunkin Donuts, and the Chiefs themselves are a few of the company’s biggest name clients. Playing with textures, confetti, and streamers make each installation unique.

“We’re always trying to make something custom that we haven’t seen before and trying to break that fourth wall,” said Westfall.

During this point in the season, they put their creative gears into overdrive –spending days or even months creating each work of art.

“As soon as the Chiefs start making the playoffs we kind of just go, Valentine’s what like we just start getting the red. We still use red but we use the other colors with the red,” said Westfall.

With one step away from the Super bowl, these balloon artists are hoping for a happy ending.

“I wanna see the fairytale Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce kiss. Like a Disney ending on the Super Bowl field with the confetti, I think we all do, he said.

The team is already on standby as the creative minds behind the Chiefs’ big send off to the Super Bowl. If the team makes it, this year’s theme is all about Las Vegas. Palm trees, the Vegas strip, and the Las Vegas sign are a few of the elements being intertwined into the balloon installation.

“Just going out there and spreading the red kingdom and just having a fun time with everyone and just supporting our city and everything that they do for us as a business makes everyone else’s business flourish is awesome,” said Huffman.
