BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) – The second City of Mural Community Festival is underway in Bay City, celebrating art, diversity, and community engagement.
United We Go, a nonprofit focused on DEI, is behind the festival.
Artists from out of state and mid-Michigan are collaborating on three murals, combining their diverse artistic expressions.
Mark Piotrowski, a Bay City artist, said he is glad murals are making a comeback.
“Bay City has had a long history of being a mural city way back in the 70′s and early 80′s. And then it faded for a while, and we started kind of trying to bring murals back about a decade or so ago, and the ball is picking up steam and it’s rolling forward,” he said. “And so, I hope that we can see more murals coming because art creates good feeling and it creates a community. And it creates statement pieces that people say, ‘Hey, you know where to go? That place.’”
The murals can be found at Indie Spot on Broadway Street, Unclaimed Freight Ace Hardware on Midland Street, and Buoy 18 on Midland Street.
