Today on World Cafe, we’re bringing you the music of AMERICANAFEST 2023. This year’s festival in Nashville featured over 200 artists, and we’re excited to share a few of these performances, taped at legendary Sound Stage Studios.
Up first, Cat Clyde is a Canadian singer-songwriter who almost had her third album, Down Rounder, derailed by a mold outbreak at her studio in Quebec. Thankfully, she connected with producer Tony Berg and tracked the album in the span of a week at Sound City in Los Angeles. The album is heavily influenced by the natural environment, and it shows Clyde making the leap as a songwriter and performer.
“I feel I’ve really grown in my writing, and after struggling with collaboration in the past, it felt good to really create with others while maintaining my own clear vision,” she says. “I wanted these songs to have a live feel, because it was about capturing a moment to me.”
Then, we have a performance from Adeem the Artist. Adeem is a queer, nonbinary artist who examines country music and its southern roots on their latest album, White Trash Revelry. The record asks big questions about privilege, race and toxic masculinity. We first featured Adeem earlier this year on World Cafe, and they’re back for a mini-concert featuring new music including their most recent release, “I C U.”
