Christian Artist’s New Album Reminds There’s Hope Amid Chaos

David Crowder says his latest album “The Exile” is a reminder that there is “hope in the middle of our chaos.”

“I didn’t intend to do this at all,” he said of his music career. “I kind of snuck in. I was just trying to help at church, and all of it has come from trying to just be useful and help at the church. I didn’t have dreams that involved any of this stuff. I remember the first time I got to play the Opry…there is not a molecule in my body that even had a dream of such a thing.”

He has made dozens of albums over the years, as a solo artist and with the David Crowder Band. Crowder’s latest? “The Exile.”

“I always work in album arcs of three albums,” he explained. “This album cycle we’re in was ‘Promise,’ ‘Exile’ and ‘Return.’ It’s all just a narrative arc of the Israelites’ journey.”

He continued, “It’s metaphorical because…our whole story starts in the garden, walking and talking with our Maker, and what happens? We mess things up and get booted, so immediately, exile. So, we all are in this moment where we have this internal ache, longing for communion with the One that made us and this sense of home. We are not home yet. We’re strangers in a strange land, wandering.”

Crowder said that “The Exile”‘s message is that “there’s hope in the middle of our chaos…there’s still hope in the middle of what you’re looking at. Like, things that just seem wild out there — there’s still a God that’s sovereign, there’s still a God that delivers in the Israelites’ exile story.”

“We’re not where we’re supposed to be, things are not right, but there’s hope and there’s a King coming, and that’s what I’m trying to say,” he concluded.

In an interview with Crosswalk, Crowder emphasized this message: “Everything’s gonna be alright. He’s still in control. He’s still sovereign.”

“The Exile” definitely resonated with listeners; the album went No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart.

“MY PEOPLE! Look what y’all made happen!” Crowder wrote in an Instagram post. “I had the best time writing, producing, and releasing these songs and I’m so grateful for all the support. So happy these songs are connecting!”

Crowder topped Billboard’s Christian/Gospel Albums chart for the fourth time with his latest record, “The Exile.”

“Released Fri., May 31 via sixstepsrecords/Capitol CMG, the album landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Digital Albums, No. 6 on the Billboard Top Internet, No. 7 on Billboard’s All-Genre Top Album. It has already accumulated more than 5.4 million global streams, marking another incredible debut for Crowder,” The Christian Beat reported June 12.

“I am having the BEST time writing, producing and releasing these songs. It is so life-giving to make music so that I, along with our people, can articulate the challenge, beauty and promise associated with these days,” Crowder said. “The EXILE’ encourages us all that the promise of His presence never leaves us. He is with us always.”
