Experience thought-provoking artwork by LatinX artists at the Anya Tish Gallery

Houston – Two Houston-based LatinX artists, Marisol Valencia and Tatiana Escallón use different art mediums in their new exhibit Dialogues: A Convergence of Color and Form: Tatiana Escallón and Mariel Valencia.

There, you’ll witness Colombian-born Tatiana Escallón’s large format abstract paintings and poetry. Escallón confronts the viewer with raw vivid markings and brilliant self-authored texts that teeters between her native language of Spanish and the adopted English.

Mexican-born Marisol Valencia compliments the space with a subtle grace are minimal, yet highly complex monochromatic porcelain sculptures

Valencia says “This work talks about feelings of fragility, vulnerability, resilience, and endurance. It is a representation of how unexpected and devastating situations can cause us to collapse in despair and make us feel shattered, but also give us an opportunity to transform ourselves.”

Although employing different techniques and mediums, both artists embrace the emotive value of color and form, highlighting themes such as memory, displacement, and feminism

The exhibit runs through February, 24th. It’s free and open to the public at Anya Tish Gallery in Montrose.
