FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Former artists of the now defunct Chris Sorensen Studios are going to be hosted during July’s Art Hop at The Grand 1401 in Downtown Fresno, officials announced on Tuesday.

Officials say this is following last month’s unexpected closure of the Chris Sorensen Studios, which displaced over 60 artists. Because of this, management at The Grand 1401 says they decided to step in to offer their support and provide a space for them.

Earlier this year, officials with The Grand 1401 say they visited the studios while conducting research for the 100th anniversary of their historic building, the San Joaquin Light and Power Corporation Building.

“I loved the atmosphere there when I visited in January. When I heard the studio was closing, I
knew we had to do something to support the artists,” said Alma Matehuala, event manager at The Grand 1401. “Providing them with a venue to display their work during Art Hop is our way of giving back to the community and ensuring that these artists continue to have a platform for their creativity.”

The event will be hosted in The Grand on 10 Ballroom, located on the 10th floor at 1401 Fulton Street in Fresno on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend this event and support the artists.

Artists from the former Chris Sorensen Studio who would like to showcase their art during this event are encouraged to contact Richard Escareno at 559-266-8000 ext. 226 or email info@thegrand1401.com.
