FREDERICK, Md. (DC News Now) — Lori Rounds is a Frederick resident and has always been captivated by Carroll Creek. This sparked the idea of capturing its beauty in a painting.
“Carroll Creek is so inspirational to me personally because of what it’s done for the city and just bringing people in to see the beauty in Frederick and I wanted to just capture the essence of that beauty in something more permanent,” Rounds said.
She received a call from the Smithsonian Institution wanting to showcase her painting at the Ripley Center on the National Mall.
“I still can’t believe it,” Rounds said. “It’s such an honor, and probably the highlight of my art career.”
Rounds said that the use of encaustic paint allowed her to portray Carroll Creek in a different way than regular paint can.
“You can create a sense of depth and translucency with it that you just can’t get with any other painting medium,” Rounds explained.
Rounds hopes people will feel how she felt when walking by Carroll Creek.
“I hope that when visitors see my painting at the Smithsonian, that they experience a sense of serenity, tranquility, and calmness,” Rounds said.
Rounds’s painting will be showcased starting March 21.
