NTC Foundation is excited to announce the selection and upcoming installation of the newest art piece for their Installations at the Station program, located between The LOT and the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center (Building 176) in ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station.
Managed by the Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP), the Installations at the Station program consistently brings captivating artworks and installation to the community, featuring works from local artists in the San Diego-Baja region.
Installations at the Station presents PANCA
San Diego-based Mexican American artist, Paola Villaseñor, aka PANCA, was selected for her installation titled “No Soy Marinero, Soy Capitan,” which will highlight the vibrancy of San Diego culture and life.
“We are so excited to be continuing our Installations at the Station program into 2024 and welcoming PANCA into the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station community,” said Lisa Johnson, President and CEO of the NTC Foundation.
“PANCA’s vision to illuminate San Diego’s rich culture and all the marvels of our surrounding environment is the perfect way to pay homage to this wonderful city. PANCA is an incredibly talented artist and we can’t wait to showcase her work in ARTS DISTRICT.”
Born in the United States to Mexican parents, PANCA is a first-generation artist based in Tijuana, Mexico. With expertise spanning illustration, painting, murals, and installations, she has cultivated over a decade of artistic experience in both Mexico and the United States.
Through her art, PANCA seamlessly weaves together the cultural richness of her dual heritage, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, emotions, and nostalgia to create symbolic and reminiscent works.
Having long admired the works of fellow artists who have contributed to the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, PANCA is thrilled to leave her own mark as one of the selected artists for the Installations at the Station program.
Her upcoming project will capture the essence of San Diego’s culture and lifestyle through a large wraparound mural that celebrates the beauty and wonders of the city.
The mural will depict the quintessential San Diego summer day, showcasing elements such as breathtaking seascapes, radiant sunshine, and the rugged desert mountains surrounding the city.
Bursting with color and vibrancy, PANCA’s installation promises to be a dynamic homage to the city’s unique charm, vividly expressed through her distinctive use of color and artistic style.
This July, stop by ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station to witness the captivating evolution of PANCA’s mural as it unfolds over the course of several weeks.
