Local artists submit new designs for Visalia City Logo | YourCentralValley.com

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – After receiving backlash from the community, the re-design committee accepted 87 designs from local artists to replace the current logo.

The redesign of the logo cost the city $150,000.

Visalia residents like Cody VanDam say they enjoyed the logo before.

“I really love the old logo and it really represents the agriculture it feels like we’re trying to get rid of the agriculture and I would say 85 to 95% of people around here. A lot of them are ag-related businesses and I want to keep that here,” VanDam said.

Artists had to follow a list of guidelines, including having a strong “v” design and keeping it simple and modern.

Carmina Faustino says local artists deserve to be recognized.

“It helps them get more customers to see their art and all that stuff, and I think that helps with keeping you know money and economy inside the community and then also supporting local artists and then just the art industry in general,” Faustino said.

Some people, like David Hickman, ask why the city is changing their logo to begin with.

“Like I don’t think anyone should ever redo a Beetles song, no one should ever remake a Luther Vandross song, but that’s just me. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but if it’s not broke, right, don’t fix it,” Hickman said.

The re-design committee will decide between five entries from local artists on Wednesday night.
