NEW ORLEANS – Last night, Feb. 4, celebrities and musicians filled the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Many memorable moments were made.
Miley Cyrus won her first award. During an acceptance speech for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, Jay-Z criticized the Recording Academy for having never awarded Beyonce “Album of the Year” stating, “…she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won Album of the Year.” He continued, “Some of you are gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category.” Additionally, an 80-year-old Joni Mitchell performed on the Grammy stage for the first time, Tracey Chapman performed for the first time in decades and Celine Dion made a surprise public appearance after her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis – awarding Album of the Year to Taylor Swift, who has won the award four times.
The moments, music and fashion were all noteworthy, but what really made the night special was the recognition of Louisiana artist and musicians.
This year, Louisianians accounted for over 20 Grammy nominations across a multitude of categories and six wins – including an unusual tie – and sweeping the Best Regional Roots Music Album category.
