MALLORY: WELCOME BACK. NOW TO A NEW EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY NOW CREATED BY ONE OF MILWAUKEE’N ARTISTS. STEVEN HOPKINS JOINSVE RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY. YOU HAVE THIS NEW EXHIBIT. EXPLAIN WHAT PEOPLE WILL ABLE TO K OUT. STEVEN: I WILL HAVE 30 SOME WOODCUT PRINTS THERE. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT TYPES. I LOVE — MOSTLY FACES. I LOVE FACES. YOU HAVE A GREAT FACE. MALLORY: DON’T ASK ME TO DRAW IT OR ANYTHING. STEVEN: I HAVE BEEN DOING IT 51 YEARS. THIS IS A PASSION OF YOURS. WHAT IS YOUR STYLE AND WHAT GOT PLACE? STEVEN: LOOKING AT PEOPLE AND BEING ABLE TO SEE A FACE I DON’T YO MEET IF YOU LOOK AT A PICTURE. I ENJOY TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THAT PERSON AND BUILD UP A RAPP THEM AND EXPLORE THEM. WE ARE SEEING — MALLORY: WE ARE SEEING SOME OF THOSE IMAGES AND WOOD. THIS IS STUFF YOU ARE CARVING? STEVEN: I USE A NUMBER OF JAPANESE TOOLS, I’VE MADE SOME OF MY OWN TOOLS. I USED RAMBLE TOOLS, USE SANDPAPER, USE NAILS, WHATEVER I NEED TO MAKE THE INCISION INTOE IT IS JAPANESE PLYWOOD, SPECIFICALLY FOR WOODCUT PRINTMAKING. MALLORY: WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR ARSTEVEN: I LITTLE BIT MORE ABT PEOPLE. A LOT OF THE PEOPLE I HAVE DONE PEOPLE. THEY ALL HAVE A STORY TO TELL. LEAVE YOUR PHYSICAL FEATURES DO NOT NECESSARILY TELL YOU WHA INS I TRIED TO EXPLORE THAT. THIS GENTLEMAN YOU ARE SEEING WAS WONDERFUL. HE WAS TAKING ON THE WISCONSIN AVENUE. SOMEBODY TOOK A PICTURE AND USED IT. IT IS LOOKING AT THE PERSON, LOOKING AT THE PHOTO, THEY LOOK BACK AT HIM. MALLORY: IT IS SO IMPRESSIVE. GETTING THE WORD OUT SO PEOPLE WILL CHE OUT. WE WILL MAKE SURE WE HAVE ALL OF .THANK YOU FOR JOINING US.

Steven Hopkins, a woodcut artist from Milwaukee, is currently exhibiting his work at No Studios near 11th and McKinley in Milwaukee. His exhibit is part of the No Studios Visual Arts program. The program is a quarterly rotation of art by local artists in the No Studios Gallery and Skyline spaces. 100% of sale proceeds go to the artist.
