Monadnock Ledger-Transcript – Monadnock Art, MAXT Makerspace and Monadnock Center collaboration aims to support emerging artists

A new collaboration between Monadnock Art, MAXT Makerspace and the Monadnock Center for History and Culture has launched to support the development of younger artists.

Created with the goal of ensuring the region remains a home to artists, the program was created to provide resources, mentorship and community to the community’s newest artists.

“The Monadnock region has always been fertile ground for artists, but in recent years many have struggled to establish themselves here,” stated MAXT Executive Director Roy Schlieben, “Our organizations align in our mission to provide material resources and a supportive community for artists, and combined we can offer a leg up to those who most need it.”

The program is open to anyone aged 30 or under, including high school students. Individuals must live, work or go to school in one of the six towns covered by the Monadnock Art Tour: Peterborough, Dublin, Jaffrey, Marlborough, Harrisville or Hancock.

Artists in the program will be given free six-month memberships to MAXTMakerspace, and will participate in monthly get-togethers with other artists and a team of mentors. These meetups will build toward the Emerging Artists Exhibition at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, held in parallel with the Monadnock Art Tour’s Exhibition in October.

Interested artists can work in any visual arts medium, and have a portfolio of four to five pieces they can provide our selection committee for review. They should be prepared to participate in the program’s meetups and show their work at the gallery show. Applications are available at maxtmakerspace.org/emerging-artists and are due by May 31.
