RACINE — The following press release is published on Racine County Eye courtesy of the Spectrum School of the Arts and Gallery.
Spectrum School of the Arts and Gallery, located in the east Building of the DeKoven Center, 2000 Wisconsin Ave., is pleased to announce its newest show “2D, 3D, 4 Artists,” opening Saturday, July 6, and running through July 28, 2024. This show will showcase four artists with the unique ability to produce both 2D — paintings, drawings, etc., as well as 3D ceramic artwork. The four featured artists are Mark Hyde, Mark Janiuk, PM Fallon and Jo Thul.
The people behind 2D, 3D, 4 Artists
Mark Hyde has had a long association with Spectrum as their resident ceramics instructor. He started doing pottery at a young age and picked up drawing during his college years. “I’m attracted to both mediums as a way to make something out of nothing — transforming a lump of clay into a pot or sculpture, and a piece of paper into a picture.”
Gallery member, Mark Janiuk, takes a more tongue-in-cheek approach to his artwork: “…a senior who is currently unemployed after working numerous jobs, including substitute teacher, dragon boat steersman, and house painter. To occupy his time and to try to keep himself from slipping further into dementia, Mark spends his time making pottery.”
PM Fallon, one of our newer gallery members brought years of experience as an art instructor and a prolific amount of artwork to our gallery. You can catch her sketching daily in all places between Chicago and Milwaukee. “My process is to spend some time in an area, observing it and making sketches. I am looking for the shapes, colors, lighting, and atmosphere that make a place special.”
Jo Thul has been doing arts and crafts all her life and just recently switched over to fine arts. Joining Spectrum has given her success in that endeavor. She describes her artwork: “My art style is hard to define because I don’t stick to just one medium. That way my art is always fresh and I’m never bored and always challenged.”
Opening reception for the show will be held on Saturday, July 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment and serendipity.
