New Star Music artists debut songs about love, hope

MANILA, Philippines — Newly launched ABS-CBN Star Music artists Nico Crisostomo, Kyle Daniell and Brence Chavez have recently dropped their respective debut singles about hope and love.

The three are managed by Roly Halagao’s Training, Production and Casting Studio, which also manages the music group Five Fingers.

Nico’s Dahan-Dahan is about a guy who has a hard time letting go of his former flame.

“I think that’s how it is when you love someone deeply, kahit anong ibigay sa’yo, bibigay mo pa rin, no matter how difficult it is,” he shared during a presscon.

Brence Chavez’s Gabay is all about hope and transformative love.

The 24-year-old hospitality management graduate from National University Manila found his interest in singing during the pandemic.

He is based in Silang, Cavite, and has Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes as his music inspirations. The indie-pop-rock artist’s personal favorite is In the Stars by Benson Boone.

Nico auditioned for “Idol Philippines,” but didn’t make the cut. He was also a first runner-up in an “Uplive” singing contest.

Kyle Daniell’s Hindi Minahal croons about a painful breakup and self-love.

“I embarked on my competitive singing journey, achieving notable success as the first runner-up in an ‘Uplive’ singing contest. While my audition for ‘Idol Philippines’ was unsuccessful, I remain dedicated to my musical pursuits. I am continuously striving to hone my craft and share my unique voice with the world,” the newbie artist said.

On the other hand, singer-songwriter Kyle’s pop ballad Hindi Minahal is based on his personal experience. He told The STAR, “It’s a reminder to everyone, especially those who were cheated… all of us get hurt. I want it to be something like, although it’s painful, it’s also a reminder that we have to love ourselves, which is the message of the track.”

Kyle, who wants to try the pop dance brand of music in the future, comes from a family of singers.

Standing tall at 6’1,” 25-year-old Kyle is a graduate of Bulacan State University. Aside from pursuing a music career, he also aspires to be a commercial model.

Among his music idols are BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Henry Moodie. As for Original Pilipino Music (OPM), his favorite tune is Fallin’ by Janno Gibbs. He further named Gary Valenciano, Sarah Geronimo, Maymay Entrata, Maki and TJ Monterde as his dream collaborations.

“I have many dreams in life. Aside from becoming a successful singer, I wanna be a hitmaker and have TV commercials. (I wanna) be a part of a series or a movie, and at the same time help charity institutions. Generally, to have a better life,” remarked Kyle.

Moreover, Gabay is the title of Brence’s single, which is about a person who’s not ready to enter a relationship.

“But someone came to be his partner. And it became his guide to trust again in love since he had an unpleasant past relationship. The song is all about hope and transformative love,” he told this paper.

Brence graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Development Management degree from Cavite State University (main campus). He also works for his alma mater besides making music.

Brence is into R&B and soul genres and admires Michael Pangilinan, KZ Tandingan and Gian Bernardino. He loves the song Nag-iisang Muli by Cup of Joe.

His flair for music began at the tender age of seven. He later on joined choirs and choral groups at 11, which paved the way for honing his craft.

The 25-year-old Brence enjoys playing basketball and volleyball during his spare time and describes himself as “a family- and career-oriented person.”

“Always find balance in everything you do,” he said.
