MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A highly anticipated return to the Milton Artists’ Guild – poet Rajnii Eddins of Burlington shared his work Saturday.
“The arts are primary, I think art is a crucial bridge to deepen recognition for the beauty of humanity and it’s a universal language of engagement that opens the doorways to imagination and openness to be our full selves in ways and dimensions we never knew we had access to,” Eddins said.
For over 30 years, Eddins has been engaging in community discussions about diversity.
He was the youngest member of the African American Writers Alliance at age 11, and has been actively sharing with youth and community in Vermont since 2010.
“Just the opportunity to engage in a space that I feel could really benefit from deepened awareness and commitment to shared humanity, and open to a more diverse array of expression and experience,” Eddins said.
Milton Artists’ Guild Executive Director Corrina Thurston says she is inspired by Eddins’ diverse talents and passions.
“I think art is one of the few things that brings people together in a community and allows people of varying backgrounds to come together and enjoy something no matter what they are,” Thurston said.
From tie dye to paintings to handmade jewelry, the Milton Artists’ Guild art center and gallery, features 170 artists’ work. Thurston enjoys seeing a variety of people come together.
“I would say my favorite part is bringing the community together and bringing different people into the guild for different types of events and allowing people to see this space and all of the creativity that it holds,” Thurston said.
Eddins’s says spaces like the Artists’ Guild align with his goals to create spaces that are educational, explorative, and celebratory – whether in a classroom or online.
