Student artists capture history of Barrackville Covered Bridge in time for festival | Life

BARRACKVILLE — The 3rd Annual Barrackville Covered Bridge Festival is today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in and around the historic bridge.

The Covered Bridge Festival Coloring Contest was designed for children up to 10 years of age. The contest also featured an Art Challenge for kids ages 11-14 so they could release their creativity by crafting a masterpiece inspired by the Barrackville Covered Bridge. The third category was the Art Challenge, which let kids explore various art forms such as painting, drawing, collage-making or even photography.

The Covered Bridge Landmark Masterpiece should showcase the intricate details of the bridge, the surrounding landscape, and the unique charm it brings to the community. Children should color the design using crayons, markers, colored pencils, or other drawing materials. Entries were due by May 27 at the Barrackville Garbage Drop box at the old video/ice cream store at 408 Pike St.

Congratulations to the winners of the Barrackville Covered Bridge coloring contest. Category 1. “Wild and Wonderful,” by Sawyer Rader. Category 2. “Montani Semper Liberi” (Mountaineers are always free), by Logan Carpenter. Category 3. “Almost Heaven, West Virginia,” by Mary Pirner.
