Alexandra Lewis is a preacher and teacher at ‘The Center’, and she says the event was created to ‘highlight the talents and the beauty of cross cultural relationships.’

“Being a Black woman and growing up in Madison, we have a lot of different negative experiences and silence,” Lewis said. “It’s amazing to be heard and to be apart of this.”

Lewis hopes ‘The Center’ will create a sense of belonging amongst the Black community within the Madison area.

Other organizers say the event had a positive turnout with ‘people of all different races, ethnicities and backgrounds.’ Chris Lewis, another faculty member at ‘The Center”, highlighted the importance of showcasing Black artists.

“Being here, being apart of this, it means a lot to showcase [artists],” Chris said. “We’re the next generation coming up.”
