WAA announces December, January Artists of the Month | News

The Weatherford Art Association is pleased to announce the winners of Artist of the Month for December and January. Each month, WAA members can compete for first, second and third place ribbons and the opportunity to showcase their artwork at local Weatherford banks and The Doss Heritage and Culture Center.

First place was awarded to artist Sarah Fino for her watercolor “Remembering Kaabong.” Fino’s daughter, a missionary, took the source photo in Kaabong, Uganda for the painting. Fino has also visited Kaabong. This and other artworks by the artist will be featured at The Doss Heritage and Culture Center throughout December and January.

Second place went to Linda Hidalgo for her watercolor painting, “Bright Ideas.” This meticulously detailed still life has already garnered Hidalgo an Artist of the Year award from the Society of Watercolor Artists in Fort Worth. Weatherford Art Association invites you to view this award-winning painting on display from December through the end of January at First Bank Texas in downtown Weatherford.

Third place honors were awarded to Wendy Ray for her oil painting “Lazy Boy.” This sunlit scene of a resting longhorn, one of Ray’s favorite subjects, is beautifully backlit and is an iconic image of Texas. You can view her painting from December to the end of January at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford.

Weatherford Art Association invites you to view and shop for art at the WAA Member Show, “Tiny Treasures – Art for Small Spaces” at the UNTHSC, Atrium Gallery, Dec. 2 through Jan. 12 at 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth.

As part of its mission as a non-profit 501(C)(3) corporation, the Weatherford Art Association provides monthly demonstrations to increase the knowledge of its members and support arts education for the community. Beginning in January the monthly meetings will be held at the Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Drive in Weatherford from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, except December.
