WI Black Art & Culture Expo Celebrates Artists Then and Now

Based in Racine, the two-month-long Wisconsin Black Art and Culture Expo foregrounds Black artists throughout the Badger State.

Events in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee showcase contemporary work, including a visual arts exhibition, a gospel performance and a fashion show.

“Our stories of Black creatives just have not been told; they’ve not been a part of that historical lexicon of arts,” says Scott Terry, the expo’s curator and owner of Mahogany Gallery in Racine.

To remedy that, the expo also offers historical presentations about Black culture. A black-tie gala at UW-Parkside kicks off the event on Feb. 10. For more info, visit mahoganygallery.com.
