Winter art show in Maple Ridge highlights artists with diverse abilities

The Vicuña Art Studios annual show and sale takes place Saturday, Nov. 25

Artists with diverse abilities will be showcasing their artwork in the annual Vicuña Art Studio’s Annual Winter Art Show.

Guests will have the chance to meet with the 45 artists who will be participating in the show including Natasha Dusault and McKenna Croteau.

Dusault is described as an enthusiastic painter who has been creating her works of art since high school, more than 12 years.

“The challenge of painting gives her a thrill, which is evident in her work. She is continually improving her skills and focuses on art with much diligence,” explained director of the studio, Dhanha Shin.

Many times, said Shin, Dusault’s inspiration comes from her family.

Dusault shared that diversity in the studio is what she loves most about Vicuña.

“Every time I come in there is a lot of freedom, which I like,” she said, noting that she also enjoys switching up her painting style depending on the project.

Croteau is also a painter who often combines realistic depictions of animals with bold, colourful patterns she designs herself.

She often paints animals, in addition to portraits, landscapes, and still lifes.

“She is highly skilled at mixing her own colors, adding depth to her work. Art is a way for her to share her mind with the world,” said Shin.

Croteau added that she loves working on her own projects, choosing her own subject matter.

“I especially like to draw and paint people and animals that are meaningful to me. Coming to the art studio makes me feel happy. Taking art lessons at Vicuña gives me joy,” said the painter.
