CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A young artist is keeping her father’s memory alive through her painting gift.
Gracie Coleman lost her father, Chisolm, to stage four colon cancer in 2022. She described her father as someone who had a large appreciation for art and now finds herself painting the most important things to him – like life on the coast.
The natural world around her inspires Gracie herself and paints lively coastal scenes, sunsets over the marsh, hummingbirds in the garden, and oysters on the half shell.
The art department at Porter-Gaud School has helped Gracie foster her love of painting.
“I think that it is really cool being able to make a difference with my artwork, and to connect, not only myself with him through my paintings, but also other people, and be able to make a difference and spread a message with him in mind,” she said.
As part of her goal of inspiring and uplifting, Coleman led the charge with a group of students making watercolor greeting cards, which were handed out to chemo patients at Roper St. Francis Hospital on Thursday.
