Young artists take center stage in Cherokee Symphony’s season finale

The Cherokee Symphony closed out its successful season on Sunday, April 28, with a “Young Artist Showcase” concert. Violinists Steven Pruss and Seha Ok, took center stage as soloists for the evening.

Steven Pruss has performed with both the Lincoln Symphony and Sioux City Symphony.

The program featured a selection of eight beautiful pieces, showcasing the virtuosity and talent of the symphony. Pruss and Ok captivated the audience with their selections, leaving a lasting impression on those in attendance.

Pruss, a senior at University of Nebraska, Omaha, performed Edward Elgar’s Salut d’Amour Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major (1).

Ok, a junior at Millard North High School in Omaha, performed Camille Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.

Cherokee performers included Laura Jones (violin), Christy Alquist (violoncello), Joe Vannatta (oboe), and Dusty Basten (trombone). Additional performers hail from Storm Lake, Sioux City, Kingsley, Le Mars, Omaha, Sloan, Spirit Lake, Sanborn, Hartley, Cushing, Sibley, Okoboji, Remsen, Milford and Sioux Rapids.

This concert marked a fitting end to the Cherokee Symphony’s season, highlighting the importance of supporting and nurturing young musical talent.
