The first-ever SCI_ART Symposium in 2023 attracted a record-breaking 600 attendees to its multidisciplinary programming, spanning interactive elements, exploratory conversations, and the convergence of art and science.
The first symposium was organized by the Embassy of Slovenia, the Embassy of Germany, and the SAW Gallery. The second SCI_ART Symposium is hosted this year at the Ottawa Art Gallery and Club SAW on April 6-7. Bigger and better, ten countries are participating this year with world-class art & science projects, including Austria’s Ars Electronica—an internationally unique platform for digital art and media culture located in Linz, Austria—and Norway’s NOBA Arena, the first permanent arena for BioArt in Norway.
The convergence of art and science has been a driving force behind technological advancements, societal development, and expanded horizons across Europe, Canada, and around the world. This symposium is a unique and exciting opportunity for you to be part of this transformative dialogue.
SCI_ART is proud to collaborate with embassies and cultural, scientific, and academic institutions from over ten countries—including Slovenia, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria, and more—uniting internationally acclaimed artists, scientists, and researchers for a day of exploration and discussion. The event will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including the environment, heritage, philosophical-scientific questions, bio art, bioscience, inter-species collaboration, the societal and social impact of Art & Science, environmental and climate themes related to Art/Science, and the humanization of technology.
Themes covered in the 2024 SCI_ART edition include policy and legislation for encouraging collaboration of Art & Science, bio art and art in biotech, interspecies communication and collaboration, AI, robotics, and other new technologies in art, environment & climate, and ethics & social impacts.
