Co-organized by the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and the Baltimore Museum of Art, “Making Her Mark” reveals the many contributions made by women to the visual arts in Europe from 1400 to 1800. Showcasing more than 230 objects, including royal portraits, textiles, scientific drawings, and furniture, the exhibition features renowned artists Sofonisba Anguissola, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Judith Leyster, alongside works by female artisanal collectives, unidentified amateurs, religious orders, and workshops. Curated by Dr. Alexa Greist and Dr. Andaleeb Badiee Banta, the exhibition exclusively displays works by women and challenges ideas that women’s artistry during this period was both rare and unexceptional.
“Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800” is on view at the AGO until July 1, 2024.
