As a tribute to the power of the arts as voice and precursor of the trends of the world we live in, the Museo de las Artes (MUSA) and EU Guest of Honour at FIL have conceived a European multidisciplinary exhibition showcasing different dimensions of contemporary creation in Europe.
Home Beyond the Dawn, Ukraine
Mirroring EU literary, artistic and cultural programme at FIL Guadalajara 2023, this exhibition draws its substance from Europe’s diversity: cultures, regions, languages and expressions, artistic mediums as well as content, underscoring the richness and vivacity of contemporary creation in Europe.
This exhibition is composed of 3 distinct artistic expositions, preceded by an introduction depicting portraits of people who have inspired, defended and modelled the European Union. The exhibition was inaugurated on Friday 24 November 2023 and will be open until 24 February 2024.
Immersive digital art experiences: a sensory Journey into the World of Imagination
It is a collection of immersive digital art works created by 40 European artistic studios from 8 different EU countries. This is the largest number of European immersive art works presented in a single event, reflecting the wide appeal and increasing number of artists using digital tools as means of expression. It showcases innovative creative trends and state of the art technology, in which Europe has taken an avant garde position.
Immersive Art works are characterized by a captivating mix of audio-visual and interactive elements that harmoniously combine to transport the viewer into imaginary and dreamlike environments. Each artwork becomes a place where the observer can experience the fusion of the material world and the imaginary, momentarily transcending the confines of everyday life. Immersive digital art experiences represent a bridge between the past and future of art.
European Contemporary Architecture, EUmies Awards
This exhibition shows architectural works built across Europe, selected among 532 projects nominated for the 2022 Contemporary Architecture Prize of the European Union – Mies van der Rohe Awards.
The EUmies Awards celebrate excellence in architectural works in Europe and raise awareness of quality architecture and its contribution to the well-being of citizens and the sustainable development of cities, towns and villages. They highlight the involvement of the European Union in supporting both the quality and diversity of European architectural expression, as well as its role in promoting sustainability, defining a common European culture.
Home Beyond the Dawn
This is an exhibition of 25 contemporary artists from Ukraine who are working despite the war. Some of them do this while staying in their homes and studios, volunteering, some — in temporary exile, and some — becoming soldiers in defence of their home.
The exhibition is about how the landscape and its perception changes, and how the concept of place and home transform in new circumstances. The works tell about home, its loss, preservation and reconstruction, the practices of unity and support and how art can exist and coexist with a daily routine during the war.
This is an exhibition dedicated to life. Works produced after the full invasion of the country in February 2022 depict extreme situations which Ukrainian artists, as much as its population are currently confronting.
Home by the Dawn is the title of a poem by Bohdan-Ihor Antonych, a Ukrainian poet and writer of the first third of the 20th century. Antonych wrote about unity and equal relations between all components of the world — human and non-human. He died at 27 — the age of eternally young geniuses. Antonych’s texts were banned in the Soviet Union until the 1960s and the poet was unknown in his own country. This fog of oblivion, which envelops the cultural history of a totalitarian society, comes to the territories occupied by Russia even today, in the 21st century.
Ukraine’s presence in this exhibit emphasises the vitality of current artistic creation in Ukraine and its belonging to the European cultural space.
These three exhibits will be preceded by a collection of portraits from the German artist Andrea Cochius, depicting 16 European personalities that have played a significant role in the construction and shape of the European Union.

The works represent thinkers and politicians who were the precursors of the European Union, whose professional and political careers, their personal experiences of war and their belief in a united Europe were, and are, decisive for both the foundation and the sustenance of the values of our community. These men and women are visionaries; they built the bridges of the European continent.
Artistic expressions in contemporary Europe has been curated in collaboration and with the support of Moisés Shciaffino and MUSA curatorial and technical team.
