Together with partners of the local EU National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) network, the EU Delegation organised “Youth Slam for the Future” performances featuring six young European artists: Alekksandra Vassallo, Žygimantas Kudirka, Svetlana Coffi, Nicolas Calmes, Gloria Riggio, and Diogo Dias.
The artists were invited to Strasbourg to perform in the context of the Council of Europe’s youth conference “Confidence in Tomorrow” and the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe. On 13 May, the slammers surprised over a hundred representatives of national youth councils, international youth organisations, and national youth authorities as well as Council of Europe staff and diplomatic representatives taking part in the Conference’s dinner.
On 14 May, the slammers performed at the Alliance Française de Strasbourg and at the Council of Europe’s Palais.
In their poems, the six artists from the four corners of Europe addressed issues such as war, climate change, gender-based violence, non-discrimination, social and economic progress, education, artificial intelligence, and participatory democracy.
These performances were a great illustration of EUNIC’s aim: to strengthen cultural links, to provide a platform for exchange for those involved in cultural relations, and to promote the integration of cultural cooperation into international relations.
The EU Delegation is very grateful to the artists for their insightful and inspiring performances and to our EUNIC partners: the Permanent Representation of Malta who took the lead in organising the performances, the Alliance Française who hosted us on 15 May, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Permanent Representations of Portugal, Luxembourg and Lithuania to the Council of Europe.
