15th Annual ArtFest 55 Exhibit opens June 14 at Creative 360

The 15th Annual ArtFest 55 Exhibition opens at Creative 360 on Friday, June 14 and will run though July 28.

ArtFest 55 celebrates the work of Michigan’s visual artists and writers age 55 and older. More than 150 visual arts and writing pieces representing 90 artists and writers were submitted to this year’s competition.

“Creative 360 exists to allow access to the arts for everyone,” said Program Director and Curator Colleen Reed. “Artfest 55 gives us the chance to celebrate artists who are committing to creativity later in life. Some have been creating art their whole lives, others have come to the arts later in life. All have something important to share and we love amplifying their voices.”

The jurist for this year’s visual art exhibition is Professor Robert A. McCann of the Department of Art, Art History & Design at Michigan State University. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of two-dimensional art, three dimensional art, and photography. Adjudicators for writing in the categories of poetry, short story, and memoir are writers and educators Jared Morningstar, Sarah Yoder, and Luana Russell.

The exhibit opens with a reception and awards ceremony on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Creative 360’s galleries are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend and evening hours may vary. Admission to all Creative 360 galleries is free and the arts nonprofit is grateful for any donations that allow them to continue this practice.
