Adelaide Contemporary Experimental (ACE) is South Australia’s leading independent contemporary visual arts organisation. Through exhibitions, studios, public programs, education, professional development opportunities and publications, ACE expands the edges of contemporary visual art practice, embraces diversity and provides a space for artists to take risks within an artist centred culture.
Reporting to the ACE Board, the Artistic Director works in partnership with the Executive Director to lead ACE as the public faces of the organisation. The focus of the Artistic Director is to lead the development of engaging, diverse, and critically rigorous artistic programs, including exhibitions, public programs, the studio program, and education programs. Key responsibilities include:
- develop, curate and oversee a high-quality program of contemporary visual art exhibitions, public programs, studio program, and artist development programs
- develop and implement other relevant artistic programs including publishing, exchange and visitor programs to engage leading artists, curators and writers to support ACE’s local, national and international profile
- shape ACE’s role in propelling the careers of South Australian and Australian contemporary visual artists
- cultivate and steward key stakeholder relationships including the Board, funding agencies, industry partners and stakeholders, sponsors, philanthropic foundations and trusts, and private patrons
- ensure the artistic program is managed within budget and resourcing requirements
- identify and contribute to the development of funding activities
- oversee the development of an annual schedule of diverse public programs to complement the artistic activities of ACE and increase audience participation.
Pivotal to this dynamic role will be the ability to work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Board, staff, artists and stakeholders to develop and deliver ACE’s unique vision and program. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced arts professionals with well-developed curatorial, programming, leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement and contemporary visual arts experience.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role in the arts sector and make a significant contribution to creating greater opportunities for a diversity of artists in SA and beyond.
